All Saints’ Episcopal Church We welcome, serve and love all unconditionally through Jesus Christ THIS WEEK AT ALL SAINTS: From the Rector: What a wonderful time was had this past Saturday at the Oyster Roast! So many of you brought friends and members of our community to share in the fellowship of All Saints’. We couldn’t have done it without all of you. I especially want to give thanks for the leadership of Harry Sullivan and his team of fish fryers, Howard Pierce, and special thanks to members of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Spartanburg who helped steam oysters. But without the gifts and willingness of this parish from servers, ticket takers and greeters to set-up and clean-up crews, this wonderful event could not have happened. We’ll continue the fun with our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper coming up on Tuesday, March 6th at 6:00 pm. Please come and enjoy yourselves. Ash Wednesday Service will be at 6:00 pm the next day and another on the PC campus earlier at 4:30 pm. Please come! This Sunday we continue with our Adult Formation class at 9:30 am. We are reading Glorious Companions: Five Centuries of Anglican Spirituality by Richard Schmidt. This week we are led by Neal Prater discussing the chapter on George Herbert. Please join us! I will be away this Mon-Wed at Camp Gravatt with the Bishop and other clergy for Pre-Lenten retreat. I will be available if any pastoral emergencies arise. I continue to pray for each of you. May God bless our work, and may we do his will as we seek to proclaim God’s unconditional love. C+ Upcoming Events: Wed. We are studying the scripture passages from our lectionary for that Sunday. It’s a great group so please join us! Our first Film & Theology was last night and great thanks to Dean Thompson for presenting and leading the discussion of “Places in the Heart”. Our next date and film to watch is still to be determined. Rev. Rachel Parsons-Wells has invited our congregation to join PC for their annual MLK Day Convocation on Monday, January 21st at 5:00 pm in Edmunds Hall. The Rev. Dr. Leslie D. Callahan, past of the historic St. Paul’s Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA will be the keynote speaker. Our Annual Parish meeting is this Sunday, January 27th directly following the 10:30 service. We’ll have an “amplified” coffee hour that day as well. New vestry members will be elected, and we’ll honor those finishing their terms. Please make every effort to attend on this important day. Also, our Garden project is coming along. Because of increased rain this last month, we have been delayed bringing in extra soil to help with the plantings. We have received our St. Francis statue and are looking at different benches that will work well in that space. A photo of the St. Francis statue is pictured below. Lastly, for those of you who haven’t yet met him, I want to welcome and introduce our parish intern, Mitchell Felton. Mitchell will be with us on Sunday mornings and several hours each week for six months. He and I will look at his gifts and where best he might help with the mission of All Saints’ and the ministry we share. I hope you will get to know him and welcome him in our midst. Here is some information from Mitchell: Hello All Saints! My name is Mitchell Felton and I am from Greenwood, South Carolina. I am a senior at Lander University where my major is Sociology and my minor is religion. The last several years I have spent time in youth ministry as a Young life leader and as the Youth Director at The Church of the Resurrection Episcopal. In my leisure time I enjoy reading, eating, going to concerts, and being with friends. Last fall I officially started the Discernment Program for Holy Orders and I am looking forward to worshiping alongside you as the spirit guides us into a new season. With peace, Mitchell Felton I continue to pray for each of you. May God bless our work, and may we do his will as we seek to proclaim God’s unconditional love. All Saints’ Episcopal Church We welcome, serve and love all unconditionally through Jesus Christ THIS WEEK AT ALL SAINTS: From the Rector: Christian Formation classes begin this coming Sunday at 9:30 am. We will be studying the scripture passages from our lectionary for the Sunday. Our first Film & Theology of the year will be next Sunday as well and begins at 5:00 pm. As always, we will provide popcorn and drinks, and then share a pot luck supper after during our discussion. Please use this opportunity to invite someone, especially if they do not have a church family, to join us. We will end the month with our Annual Parish meeting set for Sunday, January 27th directly following the 10:30 service. We’ll have an “amplified” coffee hour that day as well. New vestry members will be elected, and we’ll honor those finishing their terms. Please make every effort to attend on this important day. We also welcome to our Parish an intern, Mitchell Felton. Mitchell will be with us on Sunday mornings and several hours each week. We welcome, serve and love all unconditionally through Jesus Christ THIS WEEK AT ALL SAINTS: From the Rector: Merry Christmas! We are in the midst of this wonderful season and I can’t stop thinking about our beautiful Christmas Eve service last week. Many thanks to all those who served, especially our choir and wonderful musicians, Carol Roosevelt and Patrick Kiley. A lovely champagne reception was held afterwards (thanks Alicia), which I think is on track to becoming a tradition. The new year is upon us and we have a lot planned.
