The Episcopal Church is a small but influential body whose
history is closely intertwined with that of our nation. Our
first General Convention was held in Philadelphia in 1789, at
the same time as the Constitutional Convention. A number of
prominent statesmen were delegates to both. Presidents who were
Episcopalians have included George Washington, Thomas Jefferson,
Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, Gerald Ford, and the elder George Bush.
