All Saints' Columbarium and Mediation Garden

The concept of interment in consecrated ground is both theologically and practically sound. If church is the center of life—baptism, confirmation, marriage, and worship—then death and burial should be centered there as well. A hallowed place in or around the church revives the ancient tradition of having the mortal remains of members of the Christian community located as near as possible to the place of community worship.

CHRISTIAN TRADITIONS:

Inurnment of our remains or the remains of a loved one in our church columbarium is in complete keeping with our confidence in our resurrection through faith in Jesus Christ.

Our early Christian communities buried their dead in churchyards and inside the church.

As Christians we regard burning as the proper reverent way of disposing of objects that are blessed for religious use. Since we are blessed in Baptism as children of God, it is appropriate to cremate our remains and inurn those remains in our church columbarium.

SPIRITUAL ADVANTAGES OF A CHURCH COLUMBARIUM:

The inurnment in our church columbarium is a witness to our faith, a recognition of our belief in the church of saints, living and dead.

Inurnment within our grounds encourages all members of our church to gather in loving remembrance and to strengthen the bond between the living and the dead.

It comforts us to know that our ashes or the ashes our dear ones will be placed in our church columbarium on grounds consecrated to the service of God.

HUMAN ADVANTAGES OF A CHURCH COLUMBARIUM:

The option of having a columbarium on the church grounds gives the surviving family members a safe secure place where they may visit, pray, or meditate.

Residents are secure in the knowledge that no great financial burden will be placed on their families after their death.

PHYSICAL ADVANTAGES OF A CHURCH COLUMBARIUM:

The columbarium on church grounds will receive perpetual care. Its visibility to the continual coming and going of our parishioners encourages safety and provides protection from desecration and vandalism that often occurs in an isolated cemetery.

The niche modules used in the columbarium are self-contained and remain intact. If the church desires to enlarge the columbarium or move it to another location, the columbarium can easily be enlarged or relocated.

Many church members support cremation because it represents
good stewardship. It is a wise use of assets.
